OPENING A BANK ACCOUNT IN THAILAND
Information provided by The Royal Thai Consulate in Hull, England
Please note it is not possible for this consulate to provide specific information about opening a bank account in Thailand. However, we they can give you some pointers which may prove helpful.
In the past many foreign nationals who have tried to open a bank account in Thailand have found the process too daunting to contemplate. However, the process is becoming easier and some banks welcome foreigners who wish to open an account even if they do not hold a valid Work Permit or a House Registration Book.
They have received reports from regular visitors to Thailand that “Bangkok Bank”, “Siam Commercial Bank” and “Kasikorn Bank (KBANK)” are very helpful towards foreigners provided they hold a valid non-immigrant visa.
We understand that applicants will need to provide their passport with valid non-immigrant visa and the credit card which they normally use in their country of residence.
It is worth shopping around the various banks because you may find that one particular bank offers an additional service which you find particularly useful.
Please be aware that Thai banks do not usually pay interest or if they do the rate is very low.
